A Painful Birth
America was born out of a revolution against social and economic injustice. Its birth certificate is signed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
(Preamble to United States Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1776).
However, the flawed men who were inspired by Creator God to create and sign that divine document, had themselves failed to live up to its precepts. The result was another nefarious form of social injustice, slavery. There were then, and still are now, those who insist that all men are not created equal. The conflict between the precepts of the covenant and its practical application led to the most bloodied and horrific chapter of the American Experiment, the Civil War.
Throughout the nation’s existence, men and women have striven and sacrificed to ensure that the nation lived up to its promise which embodied, what Abraham Lincoln referred to as, “a rebuke and a stumbling-block to tyranny and oppression.” Besides Lincoln, the God who created this nation raised up prophets and protesters against the ignominy of slavery. There was Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and Nat Turner. William Lloyd Garrison, a white abolitionist and founder of the American Anti-Slavery Society, along with other whites, such as writers John Greenleaf Whittier and Harriet Beecher Stowe, were neck deep in the struggle. In more recent times, came Stokely Carmichael, Malcolm Little (X) and Martin Luther King, Jr., and more recently, John Lewis. Like the ancient prophets sent to Israel, they suffered and endured hardship and persecution. Some made the ultimate sacrifice, martyrdom.
Today we celebrate 248 years of that birth that changed and continues to profoundly impact the course of human history. At this juncture, more and more people are wondering if America can be found in the prophetic record. Members of the clergy, scholars, and laymen are curious about America’s role in Bible prophecy. While many are wondering about, yea speculating, even denying America’s place in God’s prophetic timeline, the nation is rapidly marching towards its prophetic destiny.
In their calculations, speculation abounds as to who will be the next world Superpower: Will it be China? Will Russia be next? Will Islam hold universal sway? How long will that next Superpower reign and will it be the ultimate and final world kingdom? Happily, there is no need to be misled. The God of Creation gives all the correct answers.
The Bible has been remarkably accurate in prophesying the ruling powers of the earth. From the time of the Babylonian Empire to our present day, it boasts of 100% accuracy rate in foretelling the nations that would rule supreme over the human family. Beginning with Babylon, some 600 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, those powers are undeniably identified. They are: Babylon, Media/Persia, Greece, Imperial Rome, the Roman Papacy and the United States of America.
Not too long ago, Greg Laurie, a popular Evangelical pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship located in Riverside, CA , wrote on his blog: “When I look at Bible prophecy, one thing that is of great interest to me, and of great concern, is the absence of the United States…Where is the United States? Why are we not in the last-days scenario? Why is it that we can read of nations like Iraq and Iran and Libya and that we possibly can find China and Russia mentioned, but we cannot find the United States? I would like to offer three plausible answers”. He then went on to offer those three plausible answers based purely on speculation not having any basis in Bible fact. Happily, the Bible does address Laurie’s consternation.
Contrary to Laurie’s assertion, which is the popular Evangelical belief, we will show, from the Bible, that the United States of America is not only mentioned in Bible Prophecy; but that it is rapidly marching towards its prophetic destiny right before our very eyes.
